Adding A New Track: Step 1
Okay, so now we have an 8 bar drum beat and are going to add an 8 bar bass pattern to accompany that by following almost the same steps as we did in Part One. First we need to add a “Track” or home for the bass part to live. Just like before, when we added the drums, go to the bottom lefthand side of your screen and tap on the “+” sign.
Adding A New Track: Step 2
When you tap on the “+” sign you’ll now see a familiar window open on your screen. Do you remember now what to do next? Excellent! Tap on the picture of the Microphone. After tapping on the Microphone you’ll see another familiar screen. It would be nice at this point if our “Apple Loop Selector Button” was visible but, it’s not so we need to do one more step first. Can you guess what it is? YES!!! Tap on the “Regions” button.
Adding A New Track: Step 3Now you’re going to see your “Regions Page” again but you’ll notice the brand new track we’ve just added for our bass guitar. Now it’s time to find a bass guitar part! Just as before when we added the drum part, let’s tap on the “Loop” button again.
Adding A New Track: Step 4Now you’ll see the “Loop Browser” window again with the “Apple Loops” button highlighted in blue at the top of the window. Below that you’ll see the word “Instrument“. You know what to next right? YES! Tap on “Instrument“.
Adding A New Track: Step 5
Again, you’ll see a pop list that provides you with an overview of all the Apple Loop instruments. We’re looking for a bass part so tap on the picture of the guitar that says “Bass” underneath it.
Using your fingertip, scroll down the list of bass parts until you find “Hip Hop Mic It Bass 01”.
Adding A New Track: Step 6
Once you’ve found that, drag it to your New Track on the left side of your Regions page with your finger.
Once you’ve dragged your new bass part to the new track your page should look like the picture below.
Push the “Play” button and let’s hear how it sounds! Do you like it? Me too! Let’s add another Apple Loop!
Adding A New Track: Step 1 ~ 6You may have noticed that adding a new Apple Loop track is basically about a 6 step process. Now that you’ve added 2 tracks to your song, the third track should be a little bit easier. Right? Great, let’s do it but this time I want you to do the first two steps on your own and I’ll meet you at Step 3. Okay, so if you’ve followed the first two steps properly, your screen should look like the image below and you should be ready to add a new Apple Loop.
Now we’re going to add a String part (Violins) to our song by following the directions in Step 4 and 5. Tap on “Instrument” and we’ll see all the Instruments that are available to us in the Apple Loop section. Do you see the picture of the “Strings“. They look like 3 funny, odd shaped guitars.
Tap on the picture and you’ll see the String parts that are available to us. Now, just like in Part 6 (above), tap on “Magna Strings” and drag the sound to the New Track in our Regions area.
Now we’ve just added our third part to our song and your Region area should look the image below! Tap on “Play” and let’s have a listen!
Sounds great doesn’t it? Okay, let’s move on to Part 3 of our lesson on Creating Your First Song In Garageband
